Galleri Bua (The Shed) is a charming little gallery with a varied selection of art and crafts. Here you will find, amongst other things, art glass, ceramics, woven items, wrought iron, jewellery, textiles and other handmade products.
The gallery is centrally located in Eidsfoss, at the mouth of the river that flows from Bergsvannet to Eikeren. It is run by Grethe Flannum from Holmestrand, who has been working with weaving since 1975. After taking a number of courses and spending half a year on a weaving course, she helped to set up an art shop in Eidsfoss as early as 1997. Her first shop was in Vaskeriet.
Over the years, Grethe Flannum has exhibited at a number of galleries and art venues, including Galleri Kvinnelist at Røed Gård on Jeløy, Galleri Slåen in Folldal and Øvre Verket in Ulefoss. In 2002, she was the festival artist for Holmestrand’s 250th anniversary.
Grethe is particularly well known for her hand-woven rugs and runners, which feature exciting, well-composed colours and designs. She dyes most of the yarn and fabrics herself, and combines cotton, linen, silk, velour and other materials to create intriguing textures and effects. The rugs are woven using the two-shaft and rosebragd techniques, with rosebragd producing a beautiful, undulating surface. The warp is made of cotton.
