Welcome to Eidsfoss
Eidsfoss is a community with a unique sense of tranquillity and a touch of history. This tiny town is situated in scenic surroundings between the two lakes, Bergsvannet and Eikern, in the very north of Vestfold county. Here you can relax, explore art and crafts, or learn about the fascinating industrial history along the cultural trail, from a guide or at the museum. Information and brochures are available at the tourist office.
From May to November, there are also several exciting events, and the little place will be buzzing with life.
The workers’ cottages from the 18th century, which are quite unique in a Norwegian context, were saved from demolition in the late 1970s thanks to local enthusiasts. Since then, the aim has been to fill the houses with light and life again. The spirit of volunteer work is embedded in the old timber walls and is still alive and well.
Eidsfoss is a vibrant and unique community, where you can rediscover a sense of calm that has been lost in our modern, stressful world. The workers’ toil, the differences between high and low, the role of women and what it was like to grow up in an ironworks are questions worth pondering whilst enjoying an ice cream at the country store, the outdoor seating at the inn or in the beautiful Baroque garden at Eidsfos manor (Hovedgården).
Enjoy the good life with a view to the past!
