The Eikerns Steamship Society is working to preserve the steamship Stadshauptmand Schwartz as an important cultural heritage site on land. The aim is to restore the ship and give it a new role as a meeting place and venue for events, gatherings and meetings.
The association is also responsible for running and maintaining the Kølabånn area, which includes jetties, toilet facilities, a boat launch and moorings for small boats. Small boat activities are managed by the association’s own small boat committee.
The jetty by the steamship has been rebuilt, and over the years thousands of hours of voluntary work have been put into the work of raising the ship, the slipway, the jetties, the toilet facilities and the restoration of the ship itself.
This work has been made possible thanks to a combination of significant voluntary effort and financial support from both public institutions and private businesses.
The association is also working to develop the Idde fleet and the pier by the steamship into a social meeting place and to create a vibrant environment around Stadshauptmand Schwartz.
