Eidsfoss is a perfect starting point for cycle rides, and the route around Lake Eikeren has long been one of the area’s most popular cycling experiences.

Following a major landslide on Hakavikveien in November 2025, it is unfortunately no longer possible to cycle the full loop around Eikeren. Instead, we recommend cycling sections of the route as a return trip from Eidsfoss. This still offers a wonderful cycling experience with beautiful scenery, lovely viewpoints and several pleasant stops along the way.

The original circular route is approximately 40 km long and follows both gravel and tarmac roads through cultivated countryside, dense deciduous and pine forests, and along the lake’s beautiful shores. Along the way, you can admire the rich flora at Markenrud, whilst Grimnes and Raukleiv offer beautiful blossoms from cherry and apple trees in spring.

In Hakavika, you’ll cycle past the old power station, and at Sundhaugen you’ll find an inviting sandy beach with excellent swimming – a perfect spot for a break. The entire route offers stunning viewpoints over Lake Eikeren and gives you the chance to experience the lake from many different angles.

The stretch between Sjulerud and Hakavika has recently been upgraded with cleared vegetation and more benches, making the cycling experience even better.

After your cycle ride, a meal at the Old Eidsfos Tavern or the Manor tastes extra good – or perhaps a well-deserved soft ice cream from the Country Store.
