There are several bathing beaches in and around Eidsfoss. Locally, Bergsvannet is known as ‘the warm water’ and Eikern as ‘the cold water’, which is down to the differences in depth and size between the two lakes.

The most popular places for swimming around Eidsfoss are:

  • Gatalanda on Bergsvannet, right next to the working-class neighbourhood of Gata. Car park and toilets just 25 metres from the beach. A small sandy beach and a lovely grassy area. Generally pleasant swimming temperatures throughout the summer.
  • Verkstedstranda by Hallen. A lovely area right next to Hallen and the open-air stage. Good parking facilities at the new car park on Markenrudveien. A sandy beach and grassy area.
  • Sandvik. A lovely area with designated campfire sites, shelters and a bathing beach. Accessible by boat or canoe, or via a footpath from Verkstedsstranda along Lake Eikern – a 15–20-minute walk.
  • Kølabånn in the heart of Eidsfoss town centre. Here you can jump off the jetty.
  • Thorrud Camping also offers plenty of lovely opportunities for swimming.

If you’re wondering where the various beaches are, you can ask at the tourist information office or the Country Store.
