The EIS Foundation (Eidsfoss Industrial History Collections) was established in 1990 with the aim of documenting, preserving and communicating the history of the Eidsfoss ironworks and the community that grew up around it.
In the old warehouse building where the Eidselva river flows into Lake Eikern, you’ll find the Ironworks Museum – often referred to as the Owen Museum. Here you can see examples of products from the ironworks and gain an insight into the production processes, the industry and life in the local community over more than 300 years.
The exhibitions ‘Glimpses of Ironworks Operations and Furnace Casting at Eidsfoss’ and ‘The Train to the Future’ have been developed by Vestfold Museums, which also works to document and communicate Eidsfoss’s industrial and cultural history. This work is often carried out in close collaboration with EIS, including through popular activities such as tin casting, talks and various programmes for the ‘Cultural School Bag’ scheme.
