Perhaps Skibergfjell isn’t the most impressive mountain top in the world, but the view is breathtaking none the less.  There are several tops, and an octagonal granite monument erected in 1877, marks the trigonometric point. The column is beautiful in itself. From here you can enjoy a fantastic view over the Oslo fiord all the way from Holmenkollen to Færder lighthouse and even see Sweden on a clear day. On the other side of the plateu you can see the Mountains Nore, Skrim and Li.

It is the Norwegian Tourist Association (DNT) that has marked the path to Skibergfjell. A free map is found in boxes along the parking lots. The round trip is approx. 9 km and starts at the parking lot, 410 meters above sea level. The road is private and you have to pay a fee of NOK 80,-. Credit cards are accepted. The road is winter-closed.

Skibergfjell was for long reckoned to be the highest point in Vestfold municipality, 632 meters above sea level, but it has newly been discovered that nearby Vestfjellet (the western mountain) is towering 633,85 meters above the Oslo fiord. The two mountain tops are just beside each other and are both popular destinations. Read about the discovery
