In the 19th century, more women acquired rights to provide for themselves. The census in 1900 shows a large surplus of women, who found new ways of life and new professions. Marie Høeg, Bolette Berg, Louise Wold and Otilde Solum became photographers in Horten and Holmestrand. Both through their pictures and their lives, these women are testimonies to how Norway was changing.
