After the procession from Varden has arrived at Verkstedstranda, and you are finished with speeches and ice cream, you can take part in a talk and a concert in the old assembly house Eidsfoss hall.<\/span><\/span> Frank Meyer from the Kongsberg mining museum tells about truancy, drunkenness, theft and worker revolt at N\u00e6s ironworks.<\/span><\/span> Torgeir Waldemar then offers his sensitive, but unpolished and brutally honest Americana.<\/span><\/span> Entrance: NOK 150 vipps\/cash only.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Frank Meyer: “Truancy, Drunkenness, Theft and Workers Revolt at N\u00e6s Ironworks”.<\/h3>\n

Frank Meyer, Kongsberg bergverksmuseum (formerly N\u00e6s jernverksmuseum), tells about N\u00e6s jernverk’s workers’ history.<\/span><\/span> The iron works experienced good economic times in the mid-18th century.<\/span><\/span> At the same time, differences in living conditions between the “top” and “bottom” of the society increased.<\/span><\/span> How did the workers react to this development?<\/span><\/span> Frank Meyer tells about the workers’ different reactions to higher work pressure and a dramatic deterioration in the living conditions of the workers’ families.<\/span><\/span> Meyer is a German-Norwegian historian with a long career in both the archive and museum sector in Norway, as dr.art.<\/span><\/span> from the University of Oslo (2001) and dr.phil.<\/span><\/span> from the University of Greifswald (1997).<\/span><\/span> He has been first archivist and head of department at the National Archives in Oslo, general manager of the Arbeiderbevegelsen’s archive and library with editorial responsibility for the journal Arbeiderhistorie, and held a professorship at Oslo University College and worked as historian and project manager at N\u00e6s jernverksmuseum in Tvedestrand.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Torgeir Waldemar has played at SXSW in Austin, toured Europe, filled Rockefeller and played for a packed Norwegian Opera with strings, bands and dancers.<\/span><\/span> Now Torgeir has removed all unnecessary equipment and travels alone with no other company than a banjo and a guitar.<\/span><\/span> The Norway tour starts in September and Waldemar will visit clubs and cultural centers, in villages and towns, throughout our long country.<\/span><\/span> Join us for an intimate evening of sensitive, but unpolished and brutally honest Americana.<\/span><\/span> Direct, sincere and unadorned, is where you find Torgeir Waldemar.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
