The ironworks was situated where nature and the landscape facilitated iron extraction in 18th-century Denmark-Norway. The location presented both opportunities and challenges for operations, with hydropower, forests for the production of charcoal, and iron ore that was extracted from the hills between Konnerud and Vestfossen, amongst other places.
