The very best view, however, is to be found on Vestfjellet, the south-western peak, just one kilometre away. Here, the landscape opens out towards the vast forest areas around \u00d8ksne, Hajern and Eikeren. On the horizon, Skrimfjell and Lifjell rise above the forests, creating an impressive backdrop.<\/p>\n
Vestfold\u2019s second-highest peak<\/h3>\n
For many years, Skibergfjell was considered Vestfold\u2019s highest mountain at 632 metres above sea level. However, during new surveys by the Norwegian Mapping Authority in 2017<\/a>, the neighbouring peak, Vestfjellet, was re-measured at 634.04 metres and Skibergfjell at 633.85 metres. The two peaks lie right next to each other and are usually visited on the same hike.<\/p>\n The blue-marked trail to Skibergfjell is maintained by the Holmestrand and Surrounding Areas Tourist Association. The hike follows a varied circular route of approximately 9 kilometres and is suitable for most people of average fitness.<\/p>\n The circular walk starts at the car park along Gr\u00f8nntjernveien, approximately 410 metres above sea level. Along the way, you\u2019ll pass the idyllic Gausesetra before the walk continues over Vestfjellet and past the Dovrehallen power station. Allow around two hours for the entire walk (there and back).<\/p>\n Free hiking maps are available at the car parks, making it easy to follow the trail.<\/p>\n Access is via Gr\u00f8nntjernveien, which is a private toll road. The road is normally closed in winter and opens when snow conditions permit. It is therefore advisable to check the Gr\u00f8ntjernveien Facebook group<\/a>\u00a0before setting off on your hike.<\/p>\nGetting to the summit<\/h3>\n
