At Eidsfoss Country Store, you\u2019ll find almost everything you need. This is a proper old-fashioned general store \u2013 you know, the sort that stocks just about everything. At the same time, the shop is an important meeting place in the village, with cosy seating areas both inside and out.<\/p>\n

Eidsfoss Country Store is Norway\u2019s oldest general store still in operation. It was established in 1868 as a consumers\u2019 cooperative, set up by the workers at Eidsfoss Ironworks. The cooperative was one of the first in Norway to be based on the cooperative principles of the Rochdale pioneers \u2013 ideas that came to the village through the English ownership of the ironworks.<\/p>\n

Today, the country store remains a natural meeting place in Eidsfoss. Events organised here include the Advent calendar, the Christmas tree lighting and the torchlight procession, and the staff are always on hand with freshly baked pancakes and other treats when the village gathers. The product range is tailored to the local community, offering a wide selection with a strong emphasis on products from local suppliers and producers.<\/p>\n

Good, personal service remains at the heart of what we do. The shopkeeper is just as likely to be found out amongst the shelves as behind the till, always ready to help. Whether you need a hand packing your shopping, help carrying it out to your car, or are looking for a product the shop doesn\u2019t stock, just ask. And if you have time for a quick break, you\u2019re very welcome to settle down in the cosy coffee corner with a cup of coffee and something tasty to eat.<\/p>\n
