Welcome to Eidsfoss

Eidsfoss is a local community a calm and a historic atmosphere. The tiny town is located in a scenic environment between the two lakes Bergsvannet and Eikern at the furthest north end of Vestfold county. It is a perfect place to relax, experience arts and crafts or learn about the exiting industrial or social history.  Get more information and brochures at the tourist office next to Eidsfos gallery. From Pentecoast until late october, there are several exiting events and the place is swarming with people. The workers homes that dates back to the 18th century, which is quite unique in the Norwegian context, were saved from demolition in the late 1970s. since then, it has all been about filling the old houses with life again. The spirit of voluntary work constitutes the very fabric of these houses timber walls. Eidsfoss is a vibrating and different kind of society, where you can reclaim a calmness that might be rare in our daily life. Workers’ hardship, the great inequalities, womens position and how it was to grow up at an ironworks in bygone times, are questions that is worth contemplating, while eating an icecream or having a pint at the beer garden at the tavern.

Enjoy the good life with a view to history!

Beate at the Tavern

Beate Bettum is a Cook With experience from French cousine. She is from Eidsfoss and owner of the Old Eidsfos Tavern, or the Tavern as the locals say. She has a firm shake and strong working hands. In the hallway we are met of the smell of the open fire Place. The fire is mostly lit and fresh flowers are on the tables. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Just like Beate.
